Welcome to All Saints Anglican Church

All Saints is a rural Anglican Parish, located in Methven, Mid Canterbury, New Zealand.  We value biblical teaching, loving pastoral care, fellowship and connecting with those in our community who do not yet know Jesus as their Saviour.

We have worship services every Sunday at 10:30 AM - we'd love you to join us!  We are located at 1 Chapman Street, Methven.

You are also warmly welcomed to Bible Study on Wednesday evenings at 7pm.  Check out Upcoming Events for more info.

Sunday Service

The Sunday service has a relaxed liturgical format, using a data projector for responses and songs, chiefly from the New Zealand Prayer Book. We sing a mixture of modern songs and traditional hymns with music provided by CDs and Downloads. Communion is currently held every second and fourth Sunday. The sermon is approximately 10 - 20 minutes long. The service is followed by morning tea and fellowship in the Parish Centre.

Our Beliefs

We believe that Jesus died for our sin on the cross so that anyone who turns to him in repentance and faith is forgiven and set free to live a life pleasing to God.

We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God.

We believe that God calls us to live lives that are distinctive, loving, gracious and bold.

We believe in the historic faith, expressed in the Book of Common Prayer.

We believe lots of other things too, but those are the main ones.

Our People

We are a congregation that wants to grow to maturity in Christ and to reach out to the lost, lonely and suffering in our community.

Our Community

All Saints Methven serves a township of about 2200 people, though this number doubles in winter and many parishioners travel from outside the town itself. Methven supports a busy and productive agricultural region and also functions as the ski village for Mt Hutt ski field. Both the agricultural and alpine industries draw many internationals, particularly from the UK, USA, Japan and the Philippines.
The church building is located in the centre of the town.

Our Church

In 1880, a small church called St Barnabas was opened in Methven. In 1884 St Barnabas was completely destroyed by a nor’west wind. The current building was originally built as All Saints at Sherwood (20 km away from Methven) and transported using two traction engines to its current site.
In 1888 the church in Methven was renamed All Saints.
The extension (known as the Parish Centre) was added to the church in 1999. The stained glass window, donated by Ngaire Dalton was dedicated in 2000 with the Lych gate opened to mark the 125th Jubilee in 2005.
